I've got a digital ignition from Graham Wilshaw. That works well and the retard kicks in as expected once it's warmed up, so I'm concentrating on the induction side of the system but thanks for your ideas John.

Good point, I could understand using it in the final drive but not the engine /gearbox. Honda shaft drives are pretty sweet, My Son has an old NTV650 and it's one of the nicest machines i've ridden, about the same performance as a 750 Commando with none of the vices

I've just bought a new trigger from Boyer. The previous one, that I wrongly suspected was faulty, was Graham's last one and cost about half the price of the Boyer item.

Well the new needles are in and there seems to be no great difference. It still starts, runs, ticks over but has no urge and is flat above 4200rpm. I've done the carbs to death, the ignition trigger is new. now turning my attention to coils and ht leads in desperation.

Hi John, The part numbers I quoted are for my IP2 which has the same brakes as your Classic.

No John, I don't think that's the issue. The bike starts and runs and, once warmed up, the revs drop back commensurate with the retard circuit working properly.

Referring to my earlier thread "loosing the will to live" it would seem that the trigger has a magnetic core. I know that magnets don't like to be knocked or hammered so i'm guessing the trigger is toast after taking a bit of a hammering from the flywheel. Looking as to why it worked loose...
