Re: more amps

As for the problem with the ignition light - same problem for me with the Yamaha rectifier unit on my IP2 - try this supplier of warning lights which you simply add into the wiring. Mine's going to be sorted during this winter's rebuild so I can't vouch for its effectiveness yet, but it comes highly...

Re: more amps

Commander generator, according to the rider's handbook, is rated at 370 watts. Even more power!

Re: more amps

According to physics, watts = amps × volts, and in my IP2 workshop manual the generator is rated at 220w. That should mean that 220 watts = just over 18 amps x 12 volts. I think for bike electrical power consumption you'd be better off calculating how much watts in total you are using as opposed to ...

NOC asking about Classic owner

The Norton owners club site has a post asking if the original owner of a Classic that's now in the USA is a club member. Here's a link to the post:

Re: New R/H F1 Rotor

Makes you wonder why it's back on if it 'sold' for so much last time? There's also a new bearing come up for sale too, by the same seller though at a different location (Lichfield), which makes me suspicious straight away - or am I just a cynic? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Norton-Rotary-Rotor...

Re: New R/H F1 Rotor

I'd misread the title and saw it as 'motor' and thought, hey put it together with that F1 chassis...DOH!
Better get off to specsavers.
Anyway, the ROTOR is obviously very popular as bidding already up to 57 at time of posting this message!

Re: Epitrochoid magazine

The mag is very welcome so it would be a shame to lose it, but it can be frustrating for the editor with the - perceived - lack of interest shown by not getting any articles. If it's any consolation, this is a problem with many club mags! As a recent IP2 owner, I also think the idea of recycling old...

Interpol 2 on ebay

Looks like a nice tidy IP2 is up on ebay, already drawing quite a few bids. Is this a club member's?

Re: Thurmal Coupling

John. The air-cooled temperature gauge is totally different from the system on the water cooled engine. On the air-cooled there are two wires that come out of the engine just above the spark plug. Those wires have no electrical feed as they operate the temperature gauge by an independent micro-volta...

Re: gaskets

I recently replaced the 2 into 1 race exhaust that came with my IP2 with the standard set-up. Yes it was very fiddly to try and get the gasket, inner sleeve and Allen bolts in place whilst fighting gravity, so in the end I used copper grease to hold the gaskets in place and it worked. Now I see why ...

Forum technical issue?

Is there a problem with the forum website? I couldn't get on it yesterday and now that it's back on line a load of posts seem to be missing, as the most recent one is from 19 July. Or is it my end and my laptop's playing up?

Re: airhead thermocouple wiring

As far as I know the temperature gauge is totally independent from the electrics and should work just off the two wires coming out from the probe? When I got my IP2 last year the gauge wasn't working either so I looked for an ignition feed problem, but in the end it was just the connectors needing c...

Re: Norton TRRL on ebay

Yes, some very good points that probably explain why he's having trouble selling it. I see it's now come up again, for the third or fourth time. Maybe £6.5k is just too much to pay for something that's only ever going to be a show bike, even if it runs. But as it is part of Norton's rotary developme...

Norton TRRL on ebay

And hey another rotary on eBay! It never rains... but three rotaries in as many days? This one looks like the genuine IP2 that went to TRRL for safety additions. Not a bad price either and looks virtually new. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Norton-Interpol-2-Motorcycle-Rotary-Engine-/222474917105?hash=it...

Surface discharge spark plugs

My IP2 is running a bit rough. I have replaced the race exhaust with a nice quiet standard pair of pipes, which makes for a more pleasant ride but it is not as smooth as I expected a rotary to be. Actually it wasn’t all that brilliant with the race exhaust, when it only went well under a hard thrott...

Re: IP2 new owner with race exhaust

Although it is based on the racer exhaust, and mine does have the extractor stub, it is blanked off and not connected, so as far as I can see, it is effectively just a 2 into 1 system running on a standard air-cooled engine with the normal air flow. I think the bike was fairly well known in the foru...

Re: IP2 new owner with race exhaust

Hi Ned Actually it does look like it is based on the extractor system used by the factory racer. From the exhaust ports the pipes loop forward into a sort of double oval and into a collector box under the engine which then has a larger single pipe out of the back and into a huge 'silencer'. It's all...

IP2 new owner with race exhaust

Hello all. I recently bought an IP2 having searched for a Norton rotary for ages and finally acquired this one. It’s been mildly café-raced from its police spec by the previous owner, but I’m going to change the styling again to my own taste. One of the first things I need to sort is the race-spec e...
