Classic Carburettor Removal etc

Hi all, I have had my Classic running today after going through the electrics, and given that it was standing for ten years it seems amazingly good. It has a new Electrex R/R and a replacement ballast resistor and it charges perfectly. I found a tiny device that has allowed the charge warning lamp t...

Re: yamaha handlebar switches?

Thanks Dave, I think you are right......probably RD400 with the self cancelling indicators as well. The Classic is coming along ok so far, but I think the previous owner must have discovered aerosol Vaseline or similar as every single electrical connector is bunged up with the stuff.I guess that prob...

yamaha handlebar switches?

Can anyone tell me please which Yamaha model the handlebar switches for the Classic were taken from please? One of mine has broken the plastic tab that holds the Hi / Lo rocker and I guess it will be easier to find them as a Yamaha part.Mick.......

Classic Headlamp

Does anyone know if the chrome headlamp rim on the Classic is specific to that bike or a generic item?Secondly, should the speedo cable knurled upper fixing protrude through the instrument casing so it can be undone without the need to dismantle the whole instrument binnacle first. (Mine was hidden ...

Can anyone tell me please where the mirrors for the Classic were sourced?I need at least one, but I guess a pair would be better. They look a lot like BMW items, but that doesn't mean much if they aren't.Mick.........

Re: Classic Virgin

Thank you for the replies, much appreciated. As regards the electrics I suspect it may have something to do with corrosion in a block connector...or something disconnected....or component failure or just poor earthing, but I guess I will just go through it with contact cleaner one piece at a time an...

Well, I've taken the plunge and bought a Norton Classic and I need a bit of advice please. I hope to collect it at the weekend. Re: W2000 Steering Head Bearings

Hi David, thank you for that......as it turns out I think I have got away with fitting new ball bearings and a thorough clean and fresh grease, they are silky smooth now. There was discernible wear on the races, but the bike has only done 5,400m from new so it was pretty minor. That said, if it needs ...

Re: W2000 Steering Head Bearings

Well, I answered my own question.......the ball bearings that came out of the steering head were 6.35mm or 1/4"The steering felt as bad as anything I've ever come across, really lumpy, restricted, countless tight spots.....and the reason turned out to be ancient grease that combined with winter...

Re: W2000 Ignition Timing

Hi Dave, having set it by the static method I put a strobe on the bike today just to check; I was going to advance it by a couple of degrees just to see if it gave it it's 'pep' back (I'm probably imagining it) but when I ran it up with the strobe it was absolutely spot on, both at idle and full adv...

.I recently set the ignition timing on my W2000 after an engine rebuild. W2000 Dragging Clutch

My W2000 stood for 30 years, it has just 5,400m recorded. I always approach the DKW with trepidation...
