Thanks to gerald and Bob for the suggestions. I will look at both but I don't think it is the wiring as I got a brand new harness.

IT'S CURED!!!! Very Happy It was the bl**dy plug leads and/or caps. Fitted new silicon leads and resistor caps and bouncy tacho has gone with the digi box!! I am using Vanellus 40 in my Commander. Is anyone else using this or does anyone know if this is not okay to use?Just thought I would ask?

Thanks WayneI think I get your drift (ish). I'll see what GW thinks. Bike ticks over on both boxes at around 600 but doesn't rev as freely with the boyer box until over about 1500.ST

To Mr R Nuts!No there is nothing non standard fitted to bike and the problem happans away from the house area.I have not looked at the plug leads or caps so may have a try with them after Easter - its one of the few options left. Do I need supressed or non supressed caps fitted?ThanksStuart

Well!!! The helpful Mr Wilshaw sent me his commander digital box and tow old Boyer units. Tried his digibox, which runs fine on his commander, and the problem was still there - in fact I would say it was worse. I took my commander off the road 2 years ago when it had the bouncy tacho and fluctuating revs problem. It has a rebuilt engine now and fired up yesterday for the first time. Have had a look at a number of items on E Bay advertised for Commander. They are not all for Commanders if any. They must be for air cooled or classic or something like that. Luckily I checked my parts book!!

As detailed in previous reply I rebuilt my back end with 3mm mild steel. Took a while but end result aint too bad. Welding a bit rough in places due to limited access for the tip but it won't be seen. Do check your oil tank though!! As said mine looked okay until I scraped some paint off. I lefta go...

Back end now rebuilt using 3mm mild steel plate and painted. Also planning to cover with bitumen especially around the oil tank whcih was also rotten through. Oil tank did seem sound until I scraped some paint off!! :? Rebuild progressing so 4166 may be back onthe road this year all being well!
