Hi Dave,
Confirming receipt of your payment, thank you.

Re: FREE on collection

Hi Dave, Long time no see! I'm home both Saturday and Sunday if you want to phone. I've got a few other odds and ends, including a Classic r/h plate in good condition, but several broken fins at the lower edge. A decent alloy welder could repair it. Also a pair of 8.6 rotors, both with wear marks fr...

FREE on collection

Now I have fully retired, the following are available FREE OF CHARGE, but must be collected from Louth in Lincolnshire. Texaco 85W-140 oil, about 15litres. The correct gearbox oil for IP2, Classic, and Commander. Silkolene Classic 2T premix, about 3 litres, the preferred engine oil for all Norton ro...

'Morning All, The rear lamp assembly, and many other plastic parts of the Classic, were originally designed for an early prototype that got cancelled after 14 or so were part-assembled. I don't believe that any of the tooling remains although, oddly enough, the IP2 also used some of those plastic pa...

Hi Mick,
As an infrequent reader of this forum, did you find a replacement housing?
If not, I have one now surplus to my needs. Overhauled, powder-coated, and ready to assemble.

Go to Marktplaats.NL and search for Norton Commander and you will find the bike. It's from Portugal with now a Dutch Registration. There is mentioning of an S behind the enginenumber? This should be very special? I never seen or heard about this... Perhaps Richard knows? Jannes 'Morning All, The 'S...

Re: Classic starter problem

I agree with Tony's suggestion to dismantle and clean the sprag of any oil sludge. And while you're in there, scrub any sludge off the clutch plates and out of the splines in the clutch drum. You'll get a much nicer clutch with less of a 'clunk' when engaging 1st gear. Finally, when replacing the sp...

Re: Commander jumps out of gear

Phillip, My experience of this problem is more often associated with the condition of layshaft 1st gear and its associated drive dog. Corners of the engagement slots and dogs of these two parts become rounded such that heavy loads force the two apart, producing the slipping you've noticed. Occasiona...

Re: Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Just to keep the record straight, very early IP2 silencers were black chrome. As a cost reduction, later IP2's, all Classics and all Commanders were fitted with the same silencers but with a sprayed black PTFE finish. That finish survived all but the hardest riders, except at the front cone section ...

Re: 6 speed box for F1 sport

Hi, The main difference is that the FZ750 output shaft is shorter than the F1. A better gear set would have been that from a later FZR750R which has the same output shaft length as the F1. I did several such FZ750 conversions using a one-off offset sprocket, dispensing with the standard oil seal spa...

Roy,
That in the black plastic containers looks to be the correct stuff, just more than ten years old and before Silkolene marketing screwed around with the brand names. I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Re: Injector Oil for W2000

Take care with Silkolene oils for rotaries as the name of that oil changed several years ago when they wished to use the 'Comp' brand for a range of four stroke oils.
Their rotary oil is now known as Classic 2T Premix, comes only in a metal 4 litre can, and is reddish-brown in colour.

don't worry about the pannier/radio box alignment - and a bead of rtv between then will stop rainwater getting in. Panniers and suspension units are somewhat 'adjacent', corrected by the lower brackets on the lifting handles. The three holes in the seat base had moulded hard rubber mushrooms, fixed ...

No, I meant the triangular bracket you haven't got. They should point towards the front of the bike and not as I've sketched it.

Five minutes searching the AN stock list:-

92.2360 Hinge bracket l/h £5.92 + VAT
92.2361 Hinge bracket r/h £5.92 + VAT

There wasn't published parts list for the P52, just my hand-written one used by purchasing and assembly. I doubt there are any copies remaining.

Re: police pannier hump

Despite opinions above, the flat triangular plates are ( or were) bolted to the frame with M6 screws and Avdel inserts in the frame. All Commander, P52 and 53, have those holes and inserts.
I don't have a P52 parts list so can't tell you the part number of the plate to check whether AN have stock.

Re: clutch plates sticking

Trev,
There should be an O-ring cord sitting in the groove in the primary cover. Leave the gap at the 12 o'clock position.
The round cover has a tapered outside which compresses the O-ring as the four screws are tightened.

Re: Front wheel spindle

Pardon me, I've just woken up!
The threaded end of the spindle, and the washer, are both 14 mm so it would be difficult for the washer to be fitted to the 'wrong' side of the fork leg where the spindle is, I believe, 15 mm.

Hi Trev, It doesn't really matter which way the spindle goes into the forks and the washer is always under the nut. The Parts Catalogue, copied from the Yamaha original, shows the spindle going in from the near-side. I find it easier to assemble the wheel single-handed by fitting the spindle from th...

Bias, fuel metering needle

In a previous thread "Slide Needle Removal", the subject diverged into a discussion about bias of the needle, something that I hadn't given much thought to previously. To confirm which way needles are biased in Norton carburettors, I stripped a NOS carb made by SU around 1989 to confirm. T...
