Re: Holding clutch in and oil supply

I fitted the AN hydraulic clutch a few months ago. It's a really nice piece of kit, however it will not fit straight onto a standard chaincase. The hole in the chaincase needs to be drilled out to about 27mm, I'd have a look through my notes to remind myself smiley and a second hole drilled to locat...

Re: Interpol 2 uneven running

There seems to be a lot of dodgy NGK spark plugs doing the rounds at the moment...

My 750 Commando seen off a new pair of NGKs in less than 120 miles, plenty of others at our local Classic club reporting problems with NGK plugs.

By the way, I've also gone back to C7E plugs too.

Right now.... we have a result Very Happy Having had the Ignition box and pick up tested by Julian at Minimag. Tested the coils, HT Leads and spark plugs. Rewired the LT circuit with new wiring and connectors. I traced the problem down to the original 6 pin socket and lead from the main harness to t...

Pretty sure that Andover are doing work on Rotaries at their workshop under the name of Norton Motors.

Paul Ralph is the guy there to have a word with.

Re: Tale of woe...

Some progress today. I completely rewired the Low Tension side of the ignition circuit with new wires and connectors. This has allowed me to check each individual connection and wire for continuity. To cut a long story short.... I've tracked a problem down to the 6 pin connector from the original wi...

Re: Tale of woe...

Hi John

Thanks for the reply... no side stand switch on the bike since I've owned it..

I'm going to spend the weekend taking out all of the wiring for the ignition circuit and make up a sub-harness to remove all of the old wiring and connectors. Fingers crossed smiley

Tale of woe...

Here is my story... Went out for a run on the old rotary, about 80 miles, everything running perfect. About a mile from home the engine died at the traffic lights (water cooled Norton). It fired up again, but a bit sluggish. I looked at the trip meter which was showing 125 miles so I thought better ...

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Conversion

Hi Dave I'm not sure where the hydraulic unit came from on my bike, a previous owner appears to have machined up the slave cylinder and fittings. He made a good job of it, but I find that after a couple of hours riding or a weekend away with the bike the clutch operation becomes very heavy ... Plus ...

Hydraulic Clutch Conversion

Evening All I'm toying with the idea of converting my bike back to a cable operated clutch from the current hydraulic setup fitted with when I bought the bike. Andover Norton have all the parts I need except for the item numbered 19 in the attached drawing. Just wondering if anyone has this part lay...

Glad you pointed that out... That is they way that I have replaced my pump seal, with the brass section into the casing.

I guess that the drawing in the manual is the wrong way round smiley

Re: Commander pump seal

Hi Anthony Thanks for the reply, that all makes sense. I've attached a photo/diagram which I think sums up what you are saying. If you take the light blue area as being the water pump housing, the red is the silicon and the grey area would be the carbon/ceramic face of the seal which would go up aga...

Commander pump seal

I presume the idea is to stop the water getting into the bearings? So is the seal formed around the spring part seal and the internal bore o...

Try getting in contact with John at https://www.classicbikeracks.co.uk he might be able to do something for you.

I've got 4 of his racks on different Brit bikes, he does good quality work.

Re: Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Hi Roy I'd go down the ceramic coating route again and as I said, I'd probably spend more time preping the metal than they did. It seems more popular than it was when I got my silencers done with local firms now doing ceramic coating.... it cost a fortune to post them to the coating company smiley C...

Re: Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Hi Roy I had my silencers ceramic coated with a matt black finish about 5 years ago... it's pretty expensive. The silencers still look good, but showing signs of the finish breaking down on the hotter/hard to clean parts of the silencer i.e. the inside of the bends. I think it might have been better...
