Re: IP2/Classic temperature gauge

Hi, many thanks for looking for the temp gauge and good news that you have managed to unearth not one but two of them. I have tried to send a personal message but it seems to be stuck in the outbox for some reason and won’t shift!! If you can advise what you would like for them then I will sort out ...

Re: IP2/Classic temperature gauge

Hi John, the sensor for for temperature gauge screws into a drilling above the left hand spark plug. I believe the Koso sensor is actually located under the spark plug, which I if I,m right raises the height of the plug and could effect sealing but maybe I’ve got the wrong end of the stick. All the ...

Re: IP2/Classic temperature gauge

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply and the offer. I have contacted Andover Norton to no avail and they suggested a Koso product which is a digital gauge with it’s sensor sitting under the plug (not sure how that would effect the running or if you could connect to it ok), but obviously it would look prett...

Re: IP2/Classic temperature gauge

Thanks for that John. Done a few hundred miles now so thought it would be showing signs of settling down but will keep an eye on it. Mentioned the gauge to Graham last time I spoke to him, but he didn’t say he had one so not so sure he is has one available. You never know one might turn up on eBay e...

IP2/Classic temperature gauge

Hi Gents, does anyone have a spare VDO 310876/1/1 temp gauge as the one on my Classic replica is playing up (sometimes reads 0 and then 100 degrees ish and then nothing for miles)? I have exchanged it for one from my Classic and it seems to give a steady reading albeit a bit high considering the eng...

Re: Interpol 2 uneven running

Maybe John, I haven’t set the choke rod with too much thought only to ensure the rod fully returns as at one time the bike was hanging up, but maybe it requires a bit more attention. Just noticeable that the two bikes are quite different, was the classic set up to give a more civilised ride or is th...

Re: Interpol 2 uneven running

Gents, ‘piggy backing on Jorn’s post, my bike has always been very temperamental when cold, coming off idle up to about 2500rpm plus. The bike surges slightly until the bike gets thoroughly warm/hot but then settles down to an even tickover and pulls clean from junctions. Is this typical as I have a...

Re: Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Hi Joe, interesting the different finishes on the exhausts and I guess the painted finishes were from the factory? My Classic replica has the black chrome, which sounds the same as yours, pretty decent at the rear of the exhaust but is a little rough closer to the manifold. The genuine Classic has p...

Re: Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Hi Mick, just had quote back, price was £168 plus the vodka and tonic with a £20 pound courier collection fee each way (also plus vat).
Does that sound comparable?

Re: Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Gents, thanks very much for the response and it’s interesting to see how difficult the original finish is to remove. Not seen a polished set of silencers on a Classic before but can see how they would look ok. Mick, I presume your silencers had to be prepped in some way for the ceramic coating, but ...

Classic/IP2 black exhaust finish

Evening Gents, has anyone managed to Improve the black (chrome?) finish on either a Classic or IP2 silencer? I was looking at sprucing up the finish on the silencers and was wondering if anyone had found a suitable finish/plating process? Looks like currently the previous owner has sprayed them mat ...

Oil pipe for w2000

Dear all, can anyone recommend a suitable oil pipe which is suitably thin walled to be contoured to enable the side cover to be fitted but is heat resistant enough to connect to the inlet manifold on a W2000 with oil tank? I will try and add some pictures later. The existing pipe is a mishmash of ol...

Re: Classic first start up

Thanks for that John, replica has god knows what mileage (several rebuilds and a different speedo) but has recently been stripped by Graham and was found to be in reasonable shape with good moly coating. The Classic is number 33 and has about 17000 miles on the clock and seems to have reasonable com...

Classic first start up

Happy new year gents, just had the Classic I acquired running for the first time and there is a slight difference in the characteristic’s to my replica. My replica fast idles and then drops down onto a steady tick over as the temperature rises (as per the manual). The Classic starts readily, literal...

I have taken the plunge and bought the 18amp battery, it’s a tight fit and I will have to remake the battery clips but it made sense to go bigger if i could ‘shoe horn it in’.

Battery for W2000

Gents, can anyone advise as to the battery spec/size that is currently available for the DKW’s? Size of the battery box is (approx) 80x185x160 and the battery which comes up that will fit into these dimensions is only 12AH were the original is quoted as being 15AH. There is a battery which looks as ...

Injector Oil for W2000

Gents, I recently managed to pick up a DKW 2000 and a Classic (both have not turned a wheel for about 5 years) and have started to look at the DKW to see if there is any signs of life. It’s an injector model and had a lot of oil across the top of the engine and down the near side casing. The source ...

Re: Air cooled engine coatings

Ok John understand. We have hit a bit of a snag with the chemical stripping of the engine cases. Do you have the details of the guys that chemically stripped the cases so I can give them a call and see what process they used? So far the 64 million dollar question is, “will it effect the moly” as the...

Re: Air cooled engine coatings

Any information is appreciated. R...

Thanks for the comments John and any tips will be welcome. Re: Oil pipes and engine removal

Thanks for that Richard. I do not have a hard copy but I believe Graham has posted one on line so I will 'swat up'. Oil pipes and engine removal

Dear all, I am going to investigate an oil leak from the back of the engine on my classic replica and I appreciate I will probably have to remove the engine to do it properly. Couple of questions: 1) if any of the pipes require replacing are there any issues with sourcing replacement lines/fittings?...
