Re: door lock grief

Most likely the lock units containing the solenoid actuators in the doors are faulty. This happened on the other half's Golf of a similar age, which has long since gone to the scrap yard. The lock units are quite cheap, £20 ish I recall, but replacing them is a complete pain in the **!£$%, removing ...

Re: Going to a rally

It also depends on the terrain. I did a trip with lots of mountain routes. Miles of low gears and high revs drank the oil much quicker than I expected and I had to fill up with some locally bought oil.

Alas it doesn't. A couple of old clutch plates (if you can find any) bolted together will do the job.

If I have interpreted your question correctly, the steps on the flywheel are at 18Deg BTDC, with the direction of the transition used to indicate which rotor to fire.

Re: carbon removal

Submerge all the non-ally bits in a caustic soda solution for a few days; that's what RN told me to do. The carbon then becomes soft and wire brushes off easily.

As the gearbox came from the Triumph Trident/ BSA Rocket 3, perhaps parts from these bikes may fit, although they probably aren't an cheaper than Norton parts.

Hi Johnny,Firstly, just as with any other vehicle its a case of keeping it in an environment which is as moisture free as possible. For ultimate protection you can buy air conditioned pods or cheaper vac bags which you can seal the bike in along with some silica gel desiccant.Specifically for the No...

I think it is partly driven by the lack of investment opportunities anywhere else; savings accounts pay bugger all, shares are performing poorly and look overpriced, you would have to have a screw loose to invest in bonds, the government has shown its intention is to tax buy to let landlords more he...

Ducatis are tastier than Nortons

I ventured out into the shed today to find that mice had eaten my Ducati, but have left the Interpol alone. The little bastards have munched the hand grips, the instrument fascia, the bleed nipple caps, the rubber bellows between the lower yoke and the fairing, and probably a few more bits I am yet ...

At 42, perhaps I just about qualify as one of those young chaps, and yes I am a bit tempted to buy the tank. However, I don't really have the time to research and re-manufacture all the other bodywork. So if I used the tank, the bike would remain an Interpol with a strange looking tank for a good ma...

The future is rotary.........allegedly!

I came across this today at work in an engineering magazine: http://www.liquidpiston.com/newsdesc/nid/33.html A new type of rotary engine with 75% thermal efficiency achieved by constant volume combustion followed by over-expansion. It is so efficient that it needs no cooling system or silencers and...

If your carbon build up is anything like mine was, using Redex would be like p1ssing into the wind. I'll wager that your only way forward is a strip down followed by a long soak in a bucket of caustic soda solution and a good wire brushing.

How about a Shindengen rectifier/regulator. They are standard fit on just about all Jap bikes I believe and also on modern Triumphs. I suspect that they did not remove all the corrosion from your engine casings such that the powder coating did not have a stable surface to bond to. I had my IP2 wheels coated by a local company a couple of years ago and they are starting to bubble, whereas my Dominator frame was done back in 1989 a...
