Some free stuff

I've been having a clear out and have the following IP2 bits, free to a good home. Spark right ignition system and retard box. Spark right voltage regulator completely fried but looks good for a authentic looking rebuild. Military spec handlebars (slightly higher than the civvy police ones, good chr...

You could use a helicoil but when you break the tang off the insert it would be advantageous to recover it rather than let it float about in the frame cavity.

Re: Re wiring an interpol .

The temperature gauge is separate from the retard system and takes it's signal from a sensor screwed in next to the spark plug (can't remember which side but it doesn't matter) the fag packet box is the retard box and is activated by the thermistor just above the RH inlet tube on the rotor housing (...

Re: Rear Brake IP2

You need to elevate the calliper to get the bleed nipple to the top when you bleed the system. Also the linkage from pedal to master cylinder is often bone dry. some grease here might improve things. Sintered pads may improve things but they tend to be hard on the disc wear wise.

All the popular detergents are thickened up by adding salt. Don't use fairy liquid and especially to lubricate your tyres when fitting them. Most of the degreasers probably contain acid of some kind, the only thing I've heard of that is supposed to be friendly is MucOff. I had to remove some powder ...

I have heard of opening up the two exit holes on the side fairings. There is a slight lip on them and removing this lip will give a bigger escape for the hot air.

Take a look at my post about three pages back. Suzuki GS850 petrol tap was the nearest I could find but I couldn't stop it dribbling, you may be able to rob the kit for some bits to make your old one work properly. I made a alloy block to screw a conventional tap into, but sealing that against the b...

Re: cooling probs.

Does the bike feel like it is running hotter than it did before the rebuild? i.e. is there noticeably more heat coming off the engine? The temperature sensor may be faulty or the gauge. There are old threads on here about other temperature measuring methods. Did you have the engine powder coating re...

Also If the bike is just sitting running without airflow over the pipes then it won't be far off red hot.

Re: RAF interpol exhausts glowing red.

I suppose that if someone had left out the tubes from the rotor housing into the exhaust manifold then the pipes could easily get that hot. A few years ago I was passed at high speed by a members IP2 with reversed flow air and a trick scavenge exhaust. His complete exhaust system was bright red.

Re: Last interpol / commander spares

Hi Graham, these oil seals are easily available from any bearing stockist. Just take the old one in and get them to match it up. I bought oil seals from dealers (rotary gearbox sprocket seal) that must have been on the shelf for years and they leaked from new. Because the bearing dealers have greate...

I would be wary of stainless steel bars. They are generally much thinner steel tubing and bend easily in a spill. Not up to the job IMHO. They are made from thinner stainless tube because thicker tubing would be too hard to bend without kinking.

Re: F1 Sport clutch judder

Can you describe the symptoms you are getting more precisely. The F1 is prone to a lot of transmission snatch at low speed and on a feathered throttle. This problem disappears as the pressure on the drive system is increased , i.e. with an opening throttle. Have you ridden the bike when the clutch d...

IP2 and Commander exhaust manifolds

Cracked balance pipes seem to be the norm on these bikes. I cut mine off and got a local fabricator to patch the hole. it is easier to remove the silencer and manifold as one piece then beat it to death on the bench to get them apart.

My IP2 gearbox is noisy in fourth gear. When I stripped the engine a few years ago there was a sticker on the back of the gearbox from a company that serviced the gearboxes. Re: IP2 air bypass pipes

Latest theory, If the choke/enrichment O rings are shot then they may leak air allowing my tick over to creep up. I've re-tuned the air bleed screws but the tick over is slow to drop back to idle and then not reliable. You don't tend to think about the choke mech. Looking at an old SU from an Austin...

Re: Filling rotor chambers with oil laying up

If you are putting oil into the chambers via the spark plug hole, you need to turn the engine over backwards. The next stop for the oil when turning forwards is the exhaust pipe and the oil has only covered a third of the surface of the chamber.
